Week 8 - Recap

Week 8 – Recap

JRHL Week 8 – Blue Barracudas easily handle the Green Monkeys, Orange Iguanas pick up their first win against the Red Jags, Silver Snakes continue to win.

Green Monkeys: 6 – Blue Barracudas: 10

The Blue Barracudas jumped on the Monkeys early in this one by building a 4-0 lead that the Monkeys just could not recover from. That doesn’t mean the Monkeys didn’t try because the second frame saw Green power back and win the period. However, the goal difference was still 3. Entering the third period Green had to press and create some offense if they wanted to win but Blue never went away and took advantage of an undisciplined pressing Monkey team. Brandon Curtis lead the way for Blue by tallying 5 goals while his counterpart, fellow Vipers teammate, Bryan Scott had 4 himself. With the Barracudas win on Sunday they are now tied for 2nd in the league with 10 points and have a huge match up with the team they are tied with this Sunday. The Green Monkeys find themselves clinging onto the final playoff spot by having the tiebreaker against the Parrots. The Parrots and Monkeys will square off this Sunday as what looks to be the biggest game of the season for any team thus far with the playoffs right around the corner. If you’re not there watching from above at 5:30 this weekend, may the Lord have mercy on your soul!!

Red Jaguars: 7 – Orange Iguanas: 9

THE ORANGE IGUANAS ARE WINLESS NO MORE!!!! The unthinkable happened this weekend as Orange toppled a slumping Reg Jaguars team and gave them their 3rd loss in as many weeks. It’s notable to say that the Jags workhorse, John Poloyac, was absent but we can not take away from the accomplishment that was achieved. The game started out with a low scoring first period, with the Jags clinging to a 2-1 lead. Both teams woke up offensively in the second by scoring 5 each as the second period ended 7-6 in favor of the Jags. Those 7 goals would be the last goals scored for Red the rest of the way. Orange managed to keep Duane Reed, who had 4 through 2 periods, and the rest of the Jags scoreless in the 3rd while posting 3 of their own to complete the win with a final score of 9-7. It’s noteworthy to say that the Orange Iguanas had a depleted roster with only 4 players available tonight. This must have been a driving factor for forward Austin Smay because he carried the Iguanas with 6 goals. After the game, we caught up with defensemen Nate Seidel and asked him how it felt to get their first win and what did you guys do differently? Nate replied “Feels great to finally get a win. I think we have been playing much better lately but just kept falling short. We put a full 45 minutes in this weekend and limited their chances, especially in the 3rd and our goalie was there for us when needed.” If you remember last week I reported to look out for the Iguanas as they will play spoiler to someone in the remaining weeks. They may not have spoiled anything for Red but the season isn’t over. Teams can no longer overlook Orange and should respect them from here on out. As for the Jaguars, there was a lot of talk at the beginning of the season on this team’s greatness but after suffering 3 losses in a row and the Blue Barracudas coming to town this weekend they better figure some things out. That game will be a battle for second place at 6:30 on Sunday.

Purple Parrots: 8 – Silver Snakes: 12

The Purple Parrots have been rolling as of late but this weekend they squared off against the leagues best. The Silver Snakes jumped out to an early lead on Sunday with Tim George blowing a slap shot past Goaltender Jarod Adams in the game’s opening minutes. The Snakes never looked back and a familiar face lead they way for them. Tim George was unstoppable this evening by scoring more goals himself than any other team scored on Sunday. In fact, his production was so great that you could take away all the goals scored by his teammates and they still would have won 10-8. That’s right you read that correctly, Tim scored 10 goals himself. This should surely lead to him be recognized as this week’s Inco Beverage 6 Pack Player of the week. Other notable performances from this game would have to be the Parrots forward Chad Davis, who has been on fire, who scored another 4. The Parrots need to shake this game off as they have the Monkeys coming to town for a battle of playoff hopefuls.

See you at the YMCA at 5:30 on Sunday, December 1.
