2020 Winter – Week 5 Recap
Jaguars dominate the Parrots, Monkeys end the Barracudas winning streak, and the Snakes move into a playoff spot.
Purple Parrots: 3 – Red Jaguars: 10
Coming into week 5, the Red Jaguars were looking to rebound from a tough loss against the Silver Snakes. The Parrots, who also suffered a lost in the previous week, were looking to get back on track. It was the Jaguars, however, who were the dominate team. The Jaguars team defense smothered the Parrots who were the league’s highest scoring team. Making his JRHL debut was forward Alec Devlin. Devlin fit perfectly into the Jaguar’s system, offering a great defensive work rate and chipped in offensively scoring 2 goals. The Parrots finally got their 1st goal of the game in the 3rd period ending Ryan Akers shutout, but it was an easy win for the Jaguars in the end.
Blue Barracudas: 7 – Green Monkeys: 10
Going into week 5, the Barracudas remained as the league’s only unbeaten team. The Green Monkeys were up for the challenge however, when the teams met for the first time of the season. The Monkeys got a positive boost prior to the game with Austin Smay making his return after missing 2 weeks. The Monkeys were the dominate team for the first 2 periods of play outscoring, the Barracudas 8-2 with Dean Carpenter having a 2nd period shutout. The Barracudas though surged in the 3rd period to get right back into the game. However, it was a little too late for Barracudas as the Monkeys ended the night with the points.
Silver Snakes: 17 – Orange Iguanas: 11
Week 5 was a must win for the Iguanas to keep their playoff dreams alive. Unfortunately for the Iguanas they would be missing forwards Tim George and Zack Podrasky. The Iguanas had a positive start, outscoring the Snakes 6-5. However, the Snakes took control after the 1st period. The Snakes had the Iguanas chasing them around for the rest of game. The Iguanas shot total fell dramatically in the 2nd and 3rd periods, and Snakes controlled the tempo of the game. Snakes picked up the points, which are critical for them with the 4th playoff spot being highly contested.
