Playoffs Round 1 – Recap
Green Monkey lose both the game and Beez Nuts, Orange Iguanas capture the rubber match and the Barracudas handle the Jags.
Green Monkeys: 4 – Silver Snakes: 18
Define hype: well basically its promoting or publicizing intensively and exaggerating its importance. The hype going into this game was the fact that the Green Monkeys matched up very well with the Silver Snakes in the previous two meetings. Each game was decided by one goal, with one game even needing overtime. The “hype” was more exciting than the actual matchup, unfortunately. The Silver Snakes jumped on the Monkeys early with a fluky behind the net goal and another one not long after, after a Monkeys defensive end turnover. The Snakes eventually built a 4-1 lead. Now I know a 4-1 lead doesn’t sound like a mountain the Monkeys couldn’t climb but by the time the period was over that mountain might as well have been Everest. I say that because the Monkeys ended up losing their highest-scoring player in Bryan Scott. A shot from the point lasered right into “Beez Nuts” and put him down for the count. Bryan wasn’t able to recover from the injury and never returned to the game. This left the already shorthanded Monkeys with only 4 people to finish the game. The Silver Snakes took advantage of the situation and never looked back by beating the Monkeys 18-4 and propelling them to the inaugural JRHL championship round.
Orange Iguanas: 17 – Purple Parrots: 15
DING DING DING Round 3. Although this was not a playoff game or any game of meaning, from a league perspective, it still provided some entertainment value. Each team won one of the battles in the regular season, so its only fitting to see who was better. The Orange Iguanas came out on top as they were the hotter team at the time. Orange finished the season by winning 3 of their last four and losing the one by a small margin. Purple, on the other hand, went the other way by losing 3 of their last 4. Well played season by both franchises. It will be interesting to see who wears Orange and Purple next year.
Red Jaguars: 7 – Blue Barracudas: 12
Playoff game 2 of the night saw the 2nd and 3rd place teams square off for what was another “hyped” game. Again, the “hype” was stronger than the product. Blue never trailed in this one and simply looked like the more motivated team. The Barracudas forward, Nate James looked impressive and Brandon Curtis was unstoppable by finishing the game with a high of 7 points. During the second period, Nate James had a goal that should be considered for the goal of the year, no scratch that, IT WAS THE GOAL OF THE YEAR! Flying down the left-wing he simply blew by one Jaguar, the found himself needing to get into the slot. However, two more Jaguars were waiting but that didn’t stop Nate. He cut into the middle and then performed a silky spin move that left the other two Jaguars wondering what the hell happened. The only person left to beat was goalie Ryan Akers but we all know the rest as Akers simply didn’t have a chance with James that close and no Jaguar defenders left to help. That’s all goalie Matt Pfeil needed to see as he did what he normally does and kept his team in front the whole way. The Red Jaguars are only left to ponder what happened in the second half of the season as the first half looked very promising. On the other side, The Blue Barracudas will face the Silver Snakes in the inaugural JRHL championship round this Sunday.
