Week 1 Recap

Wow, what a weekend. The Johnstown Roller Hockey League kicked off the inaugural season and featured some great games.

Red Jaguars: 13 – Silver Snakes: 6

The first game in the history of the JRHL featured an explosive offensive performance from the Red Jaguars. Forward Duane Reed (8G 2A) and John Poloyac (5G 6A) both offered major offensive outputs making it tough for backup goaltender Brad Prohonic. The Silver Snakes were missing first-round draft pick Tim George as well as their starting goaltender Brandon Bird. The Silver Snakes should be encouraged as their young rookie player Nolan Mock had a strong night netting 3 Goals and 1 Assist. The Snakes will look to bounce back but face a tough opponent in the Green Monkeys in week 2.

Green Monkeys: 5 – Orange Iguanas: 2

The Game of The Week did not disappoint in a close scoring game where the Monkeys came out on top. Chris Michal got the scoring started with the first period ending 2-1. The 2nd period was all Green Monkeys as they increased their lead by 2 goals and looked tight defensively. The Orange Iguanas netted on the Powerball® power play with a big blast from Travis Turchak but the Green Monkeys held on to take the game. Dean Carpenter was very solid in his YMCA debut earning himself the Player of The Game award.

Purple Parrots: 7 – Blue Barracudas 10

The final game of the night saw the Blue Barracudas hang on to a 10-7 victory against the Purple Parrots. The highlight of the 1st period was Nate James scoring an own goal giving Zak Kuzmyak the 1st goal in franchise history for the Purple Parrots. The Blue Barracudas had a big 2nd period scoring 5 goals giving them a 5 goal lead going into the 3rd. But the Purple Parrots didn’t go away scoring 5 in the 3rd but Matthew Pfeil stood strong and the Barracudas buried 2 additional goals in the 3rd to give them the win.

Week 1 had a little bit of everything and was a fantastic start to the season. I hope everyone is excited for week 2. #IsItSundayYet
