Week 4 – Recap

JRHL Week 4 – Monkeys outlast Parrots in a Shootout, Snakes continue to roll, Jaguars win in the “Battle of the unbeatens”.

Green Monkeys: 11 – Purple Parrots :10

In a game that saw the return of #2 overall pick Bryce Bostian, it took 47 minutes plus a shootout to decide the winner of this one. Each team traded blows period after period in the most-even game of the weekend. Bryan Scott and Cory Mesteller lead the way for the Monkeys with both players netting 5 points each. On the other side of the court, Adam Seidel and Chad Davis both had 5 points of their own for the Parrots. This game looked all but decided after a late Parrots goal but Monkeys defensemen Bernie Seth took a blast from his own end bouncing a rebound to a streaking Bryan Scott who scored at the buzzer. The deciding factor for this game was Monkeys goaltender Dean Carpenter as he turned away 2 of the 3 parrots in the shootout.

Orange Iguanas: 7 – Silver Snakes: 19

As the Orange Iguanas continue to struggle to find their identity it seems the Silver Snakes have done just that. #1 overall draft pick, Tim George, continues to put off big numbers and finds himself only a few points out of the scoring lead with 1 less game played. This journalist feels the biggest winner of Tim’s presence is the youngest player in the league, Nolan Mock. Nolan was on fire last night with 7 goals and 2 assists for 9 total points and catapulting himself to 4th on the scoring leaderboard. The line of George and Mock combined for 19 total points and show no sign of slowing down!! Austin Smay led the way for the Iguanas with a hat trick but their bright stop is the fact they never gave up and scored 5 in the final frame.

Red Jaguars: 10 – Blue Barracudas: 6

GAME OF THE WEEK

The battle of the undefeated left a little more to be desired after the Red Jaguars proved they just may be the team to beat. The Jaguars, led by the suburb play of their GM & Goalie Ryan Akers. The Jaguars took it to the Barracudas who weren’t able to find their step. This game found itself tied 3-3 after the first frame. The Barracudas looked poised to grab control as a streaking Nate James feed a beautiful pass across the slot to Brandon Curtis on a 2 on 1. With the net about as open as it can be, Curtis got a solid shot off that everyone in the arena assumed was going in. That’s before Ryan Akers stretched out his right pad to make an unbelievable leg save that provided the spark the Jags needed. John Poloyac and Duane Reed took it from there. It feels like Groundhog Day because John and Duane continue to shoulder the load week in and week out with another productive weekend combining for 11 points. They are now 1 and 2 in the league in scoring. The Barracudas, who are still one of the top teams in the league, will use this as motivation as they take on the Silver Snakes next week.
