Week 3 - Winter 2020 Recap

Winter 2020 – Week 3 Recap

JRHL Winter 2020 Week 3 – Jaguars win big and the Snakes and Barracudas both come out on top in overtime thrillers.

Red Jaguars: 22 – Orange Iguanas: 12

The Jaguars were looking to get back on track against the Iguanas after losing to the Barracudas in the prior week. The Iguanas, after coming off a close loss to the Monkeys, were hoping they turned a page and could put in another good performance. Unfortunately for the Iguanas, the Jaguars were too much for them to handle and the game got out of hand quickly. The Jaguars pressed the Iguanas all night, and it seemed they had a 2 on 1 every time they started a breakout. The game ended 22-12 as The Big 3 from the Jaguars all had big nights.

Silver Snakes: 14 – Green Monkeys: 13

The race for the last playoff spot is already heating up after the Snakes defeated the monkeys in overtime in week 3.  It was the Monkeys though who came out swinging, outscoring the Snakes in the 1st and 2nd periods of the game. The Monkey short bench really came into play in the 3rd however as they were missing forwards Bryan Scott and Austin Smay (The league wishes a speedy recovery for Smay and hope to see him back soon). The Snakes absolutely peppered Monkeys goaltender Dean Carpenter in the 3rd, as they battled back outscoring the Monkeys 7-2 in the 3rd and forced overtime. The overtime did not take long, and Todd Kamzik was the hero for the Snakes as he put the ball into the back of net for the 8th time of the night, giving the Snakes 2 huge points in the standings.

Blue Barracudas: 14 – Purple Parrots: 13

The game of the week was the battle of unbeaten as the Barracudas and Parrots faced off.  Some key players were missing on both teams. The Barracudas were missing forwards Cory Mesteller and Nate James and the Parrots missing defenseman Alan Homan. The Parrots got off to the better start of the two teams and led after the 1st period. The Barracudas came back strong in the 2nd period. Having himself a career night was big #99 Bernie Seth. Seth became the 2nd goaltender multiple times in the 2nd period, keeping the ball from hitting the back of the net. Not only was Seth getting it done in the defensive zone, but Bern Gretzky ended the night with a hat-trick as well. The Barracudas led by 1 after 2 periods of play. The 3rd period was back and forth and it was Parrots forward Jeremy Hobor who perfectly placed a rocket of a shot that also exploded the water bottle of Barracudas goaltender Matt Pfeil in the process. That goal sent another game into overtime. This overtime also did not take long. Jared Pavic created a turnover and gave the Barracudas a 2 on 0. Curtis sent it back to Pavic who buried the game winner and gave the Barracudas both points.
