JRHL Recap Winter 2020 Week 4

Winter 2020 – Week 4 Recap

Green Monkeys have no trouble with the Purple Parrots, Blue Barracudas hold off a determined Iguana Team, Silver Snakes Defeat the Jags.

Green Monkeys: 16 – Purple Parrots: 7

There’s not much to say about this one folks. The Green Monkeys never broke a sweat as they walked right through a hapless Parrots team. Dean Carpenter was solid as a rock in goal for Green as this game catapulted him to the top of the leader board in every statistical goalie category. As the first period concluded, we saw the shot totals just about even at 16 & 17 (favoring the Parrots), however the goals favored The Monkeys 6-1. A few early goals seemed to break the spirit of the Parrots and they never recovered. The second period was more of the same as it ended with a score of 12-3. Something seemed to finally spark the Parrots in the third, as they mustered up enough to produce 4 third period goals. Maybe it was the switch to offense from defensemen Alan Homan (name drop BOOM). This move wasn’t enough though because as the horn sounded Purple couldn’t leave the court fast enough after that beat down. Something needs to be done if the Parrots want to continue that early season success, goalies need to play better, wingers need to skate harder and attitudes need to change. As for Green it seems they are rolling right along as they wait for their second round draft pick, Austin Smay, to get healthy.

Notable performances:

Green Monkeys: John Poloyac (4G & 6A) Bryan Scott (4G) & Brian Terek 4G
Purple Parrots: Alan Homan (3G) & Jermey Hobor(3G)

Blue Barracudas: 11 – Orange Iguanas: 8

3-0 going against 0-3! I think everyone in the building underestimated this game as they thought Blue would walk right in and walk right out with an easy W. Not so fast says a very proud Iguana team. There were early reports that the Orange Iguanas had a team meeting prior to the game to discuss the direction of the team moving forward. I think something clicked as they looked sharp early on and goaltender, Tyson, may have displayed his best game of the season. The first period saw the Iguanas jump out to an early 3-0 lead and everything seemed to be clicking. However, I sensed on the Barracudas bench that they were following the mantra of “bend but don’t break.” That’s exactly what they did as the finished the period tied at 3. The second period started to flow a little more towards blues bench as Nate James and Brandon Curtis simply started wearing down Orange. Blue peppered Tyson 14 times this period that lead to 4 goals. In all actuality this should have been five goals but Tyson robbed Nate James with a sprawling glove save that even prompted Nate to give props to the opposing goalie. Unfortunately for Orange they only mustered 9 shots that period BUT scored on 3 of them. Tim George can score from anywhere as he proved that with a few full court bombs that went in. 7-6 going into the third is something no one saw coming. The 3rd continued with the same amount of intensity as we saw in the first 2. Blue seemed to finally start pulling away by netting 4 goals to 2 from Orange in this frame. The clock ran down and saw a final score of 11-8. All and all Orange should be very proud of their performance and will absolutely start winning games if they all play like they did in this one. As for Blue, they continue to roll, as they try and avenge last years cup lose. Let’s face it they are basically the same team!!!

Notable Performances:

Orange Iguanas: Tim George (5G)
Blue Barracudas: Nate James (4G he don’t pass!!) Brandon Curtis (4G & 2A)

Red Jaguars: 12 – Silver Snakes: 8

This recap is for Brandon Bird, because he wants to world to know that his Snakes defeated a very confident Ryan Akers Jaguar team. There is one very important thing of note however, Bird was not in goal but after letting 61 goals past him in his last 4 regular season starts, everyone deserves a day off I guess. Back up tendy Tomko shouldered the load to help the Snakes get past the Jags for the win. The first frame saw the Jaguars down early as Ryan Akers let in 6 to Tomko’s 2, this came even though Red outshot Silver 18-16. 5-2 is the score the crowd from above thought the period should have ended because from the a birds eye view substitute referee, Chris “Ballz” Mical, pointed for a goal that clearly went post to post and then cleared. The game must go on and the ref’s call will always stand. The second frame saw a little bit more even hockey as both teams scored 2 each but the snakes took over the shot battle 17-13. Right around this time it was apparent that Todd Kamzik and Nolan Mock were not gonna let the Jaguars back in this game. Referee Ballz came into play again when Red blasted a shot from the point that hit the cross bar and came out. Jaguars wanted a goal, Snakes said no goal and Ballz was unsure. After much unneeded debate, just stick to your decision Ballz, the goal was deemed no goal as the birds eye view confirmed. 8-4 was the score going into the third and Red still thought they could pull this one out. Assistant referee Alan Homan came down on the ice to help out Ballz because things were starting to get dicey. The Jaguars did what they could by peppering Tomko with 20 shots but he was up to the task by only letting in two. Some tempers flailed as two of the leagues youngest members had words but cooler head prevailed and we moved on. There will never be a place for people in this league to be hot headed or take liberties with their sticks, remember that!!! The game came to a close with Red losing and Silver finding themselves with back to back wins. One has to wonder where was Kuz, hopefully the tasteless decision to limit playing time in the prior week did not come into play.

Notable Performances:

Silver Snakes: Todd Kamik (5G & 2A), Nolan Mock (5G & 3A)
Red Jaguars: Bryce Bostian (3G)

At the conclusion of week four we have: ⁃ one undefeated team ⁃ one defeated team ⁃ 4 teams sitting at 2-2 The second half of the season is going to be exciting. Buckle your seatbelt grandma the bingo game is about to roll
